My political career started in 2001 as an intern in Congresswoman Carrie P. Meek's office in Miami, Florida, where I had the opportunity to work on important HIV/AIDS awareness projects and the Congresswoman’s campaign to bring early voting to my home state of Florida. The Congresswoman’s team poured into me, investing their time and guidance and awakening in me a passion to “be the change” – I am forever grateful to them all.
After my internship, I managed my first campaign. This ACLU ballot initiative successfully stopped the repeal of a portion of the County’s Human Rights Ordinance which would have allowed for discrimination in the areas of housing, finance, and employment based on sexual orientation. I realized then, I wanted to dedicate my professional life to helping others through politics.
I formed ApaFirm, which was born as a political staffing agency and grew to a national progressive-serving fundraising firm.
Leading the ApaFirm from 2004 until 2021, I first traveled the country (tiny towns and big cities), mostly managing races and often double lead as finance director, later I worked remotely as a fundraising consultant. I’ve served at every level of the ballot, specializing in Republican stronghold districts, crowded primary elections, and working with first-time candidates. I take special pride in my ability to bring people together and forge relationships with local leaders, in-state partners, and other key stakeholders.
I blend the best of non-profit and political fundraising methodologies, always aiming to develop innovative and effective strategies.
Currently, I'm the Vice President of Development for the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee, the only organization responsible for the full national landscape of state legislatures, crafting the long-term strategy to elect Democrats across the country. I deeply believe that state legislatures are the building blocks of our democracy and pass the policies that most affect Americans’ day-to-day lives.
